This promises to be an extraordinary evening planned at Rosecliff in Newport, with special guest of honor, the Kenyan Polo Team. It will support the Zoo, and raise awareness around the importance of conservation and education as it relates to the world’s endangered species, and their habitats. The teams will play the next day, but the night belongs to the Zoo!"

Newport’s polo season will reach its social highlight this summer with the Safari Ball, the Newport Polo Club's 14th annual International Polo Charity Ball on Friday, August 1 at Rosecliff, one of Newport’s famed Bellevue Avenue mansions.
The annual black tie gala will fête guests of honor, the Kenyan Polo Team, with a Safari theme to raise awareness of the importance of the conservation of the world’s endangered species and protection of their habitats.
The evening begins with a reception on the terrace, where guests can contend for enticing Silent Auction items, and enjoy cocktails & hors d’oeuvres, overlooking breathtaking garden & water views of Rhode Island Sound. A seated gourmet dinner created by Blackstone will be presented in the (air conditioned) gilded ballroom. Dance the night away to live entertainment til the stroke of midnight.

Gala Dinner Tickets are $175 if purchased by midnight June 15, ($200 after June 15) for cocktails & hors d’oeuvres, auction, seated dinner, after-dinner libations & dancing from 7:00pm-midnight. Patron Tables of 10 are $1,750 with premium table location, name plate & special decor and recognition on official event collateral. Seating is limited.
Cocktail Tickets are also available for dessert, cocktails & dancing from 9:30-midnight at $75/person.

The event is hosted by the Newport Polo Club, and proceeds from the evenings’ fundraising will benefit Roger Williams Park Zoo. The gala will take place at Rosecliff, 548 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, the premier estate amidst America’s finest collection of gilded age mansions. Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.
The annual summer soiree, now in its 14th year, attracts bon vivants, polo enthusiasts & players from across the US and oversees for a weekend of festivities in the glamorous seaside resort. The celebration continue the following day at the Newport International Polo Series where the featured match is USA vs. Kenya. Tickets to the match can be purchased in advance online, following our Calendar pages to the 8/2 match, or at the entry gates. After the match, our annual Lobsterbake will be the perfect conclusion of the weekend's events.
