We are proud to announce that the Newport Girls team finished 3rd in the nation at the USPA National Interscholastic Championship tournament. In addition, Newport’s Abby MacKenzie was awarded the Sportsmanship Award, and 2 horses from Newport’s string received Honorary
Mention in the Best Playing Pony voting.
It was an honor to compete against teams from Maui, Culver, Maryland and UConn. We are grateful for the many well-wishers and supporters that attended. We commend our the girls for their dedication & performance, and congratulate UConn, the national champions and world-class hosts. Kudos to the USPA on a successful tournament and continued success to all the participants.

The Newport team opened the tournament with a decisive win over Culver in the Wild Card round to advance to the semi-final round of the Nationals against #1-ranked Maryland at at UConn’s Horsebarn Hill Arena on the campus of UConn in Storrs, CT. Map.
UConn defeated Maui in the other semi-final match to advance to the finals against Maryland, and won in a penalty shootout in overtime, the first time the national championship was decided in overtime.
