Despite USA's halftime lead, the silver victory cup did not change hands in Mexico's return to the Newport International Polo Series, presented by BMW, on Saturday, September 19th.
The Mexican team enjoyed the hospitality and amenities of their official team headquarters at the Hyatt Regency Newport, where 360 degree water views, a swimming pool, restaurants and Stillwater Spa pampered the team with unique spa services like outdoor massage, wet room with a Vichy shower, a dry eucalyptus sauna and a full-service salon. The team also toured the famed Newport Mansions, sailed on 12 meter racing yachts with America's Cup Charters, enjoyed fine dining and dancing at the Clarke Cooke House, and perusing the Newport International Boat Show.
Playing for Mexico were Alejandro de Sousa at #1, returning captain Miguel Gomez de Parada at #2, Raul Villalobos at #3 and Diego Aguilar at #4. USA's squad consisted of Peter Friedman at #1, Chip Stiegler at #2, Dan Keating playing #3 and Sam Shore in the #4 position.
Mexico struck the first blow with a goal by de Parada, but USA converted a penalty shot by Keating to even the score, until de Sousa's point ended the chukker with an edge for Mexico, 2-1. USA unleashed the cracken in the 2nd period, shelling Mexico with 3 consecutive points, starting withFriedman , then Shore (2) before de Parada interrupted the barrage with a goal, only for Shore to score again for a 5-3 home team l position.

Unwaivered, de Parada boeyed his team with a Penalty 2 conversion and an field goal to get back in the game, but USA's Shore was still cranked up, despite unseasonably warm conditions, scoring again, followed by Friedman, to maintain a 2-point lead at the half, 7-5.
During the much-needed intermission, while fans encroached on the pitch to stomp divots, the Mexican team fine tuned their strategy with a winning combination. The fourth chukker witnessed a change in momentum, led by Mexico's de Parada, starting with a fieldgoal, followed by a Penalty 3 conversion, while USA's only point came from Friedman, before Mexcio was awarded 2 more penalty shots, converted by de Parada, to take the lead 9-8. In the 5th period, de Parada padded the lead with 2 unanswered goals for an 11-8 advantage. In the final period, de Parada scored again, and USA's Shore added a point for the home team, while defensive tactics stifled further scoring by either team, resulting in the 12-9 victory for Mexcio.
The match concluded with the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Toast & Trophy Presentation of gifts, by Hyatt Regency Director of Sales & Marketing, Keith Chouinard and Marketing Manager Blakely Schmidt. Best Playing Pony laurels were given to Fleur, owned by Peter Friedman. Autograph signing and cocktail hour to meet & greet the players, and a special gourmet taco Fiesta Lollatalulah ensued, by acclaimed restauranteur, Tallulah on Thames, to conclude the festivities.
A weekly door prize drawing of a pair of shoes from Rockport was awarded to a lucky attendee from Narragansett, RI, and winners of the Best Tailgate judging, whose artfully decorated tent received a prize Tailgate Trunk from Stella Artois.
