The home team left it all on the field on June 18, but fell short in the final chukker of the high-caliber battle in Australia's third appearance in the NBC 10 Newport International Polo Series, Presented by BMW.
As a highlight of the Polo Series' Silver Jubilee, the day's events included many special details including the BMW Experience, a door prize drawing of a WaterRower exercise machine, a Tailgate Contest whose winner received a Tailgate Picnic Trunk & 12pak from Stella Artois, and concluded with the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Toast & Trophy Presentation award ceremony, autograph signing and Shrimp on the Barbie apres polo celebration.
Returning Aussie team captain Angus Campbell brought a challenging roster of players to give USA a run for its money, including his son Monty Campbell, Simon Walker and Angus Graham. Playing for USA were Minnie Keating, Diego Sustaita, Dan Keating and Rory Torrey.
In the opening chukker, Angus Campbell was first to score, and traded points with teammate Simon Walker, putting Australia in the lead but Dan Keating determinedly answered for USA to the roar of the crowd, and Torrey won another point for USA, ending the first chukker, 3 - 2. D. Keating led off the second chukker with another point to tie it up, fueling a rally of goals in pairs, first by A. Campbell, then by Sustaita and D. Keating again to end the second chukker, tied 5 all. Australia unleashed 4 goals in the third period, by M. Campbell, A. Campbell (2) and Graham for a solid 9-5 lead.
USA's Torrey (2) and M. Keating chipped away at the defiict in the fourth chukker, to trail 9-8. The one goal spread was maintained through the fifth chukker as A. Campbell scored for Australia, matched by Sustaita, ending the fifth chukker, 10-9. D. Keating drove home another goal for USA to tie it in the sixth chukker, but Australia burst into the lead with a succession of goals by A. Campbell, Graham (2) and Walker to end the match 14-10.

Audiences of several thousand spectators enjoy the contests against international teams, as well as teams representing major US cities, playing against the home team every Sat, June thru Sept. at 5 PM / 4 PM in Sept.
