France made their highly anticipated return this past Saturday, June 17th, in the NBC 10 Newport International Polo Series, presented by the Rhode Island BMW Centers.
Representing France, in the #1 position was Estelle Wagner, playing #2 was Ninon de Salve, Liz Parker Girard was at #3, and playing #4 was Frances top rated player and Team France Captian, Olivier Girard.
For USA, Captian Dan Keating was at #1, Minnie Keating was #2, Heather Souto played #3, and Jim DeAngelis played position #4.
The match started with goals on both sides, for USA DeAngelis scored and de Salve scored for France bringing the score to 1-1 going into the second chukker. Team USA dominated in the second chukker with three goals scored by DeAngelis (two goals) and D. Keating bringing the score to 4-1 in favor of Team USA. Team USA continued their momentum with another three goals scored by DeAngelis (two goals) and Souto. The score going into halftime was 7-1 in favor of USA.
France started off the second half with a goal from Wagner, Team USA answered with two goals scored by DeAngelis bringing the score to 9-2. France dominated the fifth chukker with four goals by Wagner (two goals), L. Girard, and O. Girard closing the gap between the score, bringing the score to 9-6. France continued their momentum into the final chukker with a goal by Wagner, Team USA answered with a goal by Souto. De Salve hit a bell ringer but Newport came out as the victor with a final score of 10-8.
During the match, a lucky winner from Kansas took home a Magnum of Veuve Clicquot Champagne the weekly door prize drawing. This weeks winner of recreated the French Open here at Newport, complete with a tennis court, food, and fun won the Best Tailgate Picnic Trunk from Stella Artois.
During the team's visit to Newport, they enjoyed many of the best attractions and highlights in the City by the Sea. The Polo Series will feature 8 international teams this season including France, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Jamaica, England, Dominican Republic and the debut of Peru, as well as 5 City Teams from major US cities and a few top regional rivals for an action-packed season through the end of September. This is the 26th season of Newport International Polo Series, which has hosted teams from over 30 nations including, Germany, Spain, England, Argentina, France, Egypt, India, Australia, Costa Rica, Ghana, Canada, Chile, Jamaica, Nigeria, Portugal, New Zealand, Barbados, Scotland, South Africa, Hungary, Dominican Republic, Netherlands, Kenya, Brazil, China, Italy, Mexico, Sweden, Singapore, Monaco, and Morocco.
