Newport vs. Philadelphia Match Report

The NBC10 Newport International Polo Series, Presented by BMW featured a heated rivalry between Newport and Philadelphia, with Philadelphia hoping to tie up the record on Saturday, August 12th.

Representing Philadelphia, in the #1 position was Sarah Martin, playing #2 was CJ Martin, Christopher London was at #3, and playing #4 was Juan Vidal.

Representing Newport, Charlie Bullis was at #1, Minnie Keating was #2, Dan Keating played #3, and Dave Bullis played position #4.

Both teams started off strong, going back and forth with goals ending the chukker with a score of 3-2 with Newport in the lead going into the second chukker. Newport started off the chukker with two goals scored by M. Keating and D. Bullis but Philadelphia answered with a goal by C. Martin bringing the score to 5-3 with Newport holding onto the lead. Newport finished off the half with one goal by C. Bullis bringing the score to 6-3 going into the half.

Newport started off the second half with a goal by M. Keating but Philadelphia answered with a goal by London. Newport kicked it into gear, scoring four goals scored by C. Bullis and D. Keating bringing the score to 11-4 going into the fifth chukker.Philadelphia started off the chukker with a goal scored by Vidal but Newport answered with a goal by C. Bullis making the score 12-5 with Newport in the lead going into the final chukker.Philadelphia fought back in the final chukker with three goals scored by C. Martin and Vidal, but Newport held onto the lead with a final score of 12-8.

During the match, the door prize drawing of a genuine leather handbag by Brahmin was awarded to one lucky attendee from Connecticut. A festive birthday tailgate with beautiful blue and white décor and a delicious spread of food won the Best Tailgate Picnic Trunk from Stella Artois

The Polo Series will feature 8 international teams this season including France, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Jamaica, England, Dominican Republic and the debut of Peru, as well as 5 City Teams from major US cities and a few top regional rivals for an action-packed season through the end of September.  This is the 26th season of Newport International Polo Series, which has hosted teams from over 30 nations including, Germany, Spain, England, Argentina, France, Egypt, India, Australia, Costa Rica, Ghana, Canada, Chile, Jamaica, Nigeria, Portugal, New Zealand, Barbados, Scotland, South Africa, Hungary, Dominican Republic, Netherlands, Kenya, Brazil, China, Italy, Mexico, Sweden, Singapore, Monaco, and Morocco.

Minutes from downtown Newport, the International Polo Grounds are located at historic Glen Farm, 250 Linden Lane (off of Rte. 138) in Portsmouth, RI.  This bucolic setting is the last 100 acres of what was once a 700-acre manorial farm whose settlement dates back to the 1600's.  Its classical stone barns from the Gilded Age and its park-like grounds were rehabilitated by polo series founder, Dan Keating, and thrive today as an equestrian & community recreational property, and home of the Polo Series.
