Oriented for athletic teens looking to take up a team sporting pursuit that could become an athletic option for college and adult life, our certified polo instructor, coach of the Brown University men & women's polo team, will guide students through polo basics, concluding with a scrimmage.
America's oldest polo club is still at the forefront of introducing the 3,000 year-old sport to new players. Newport Polo, reputed as a leading instructional polo program by the United States Polo Association (USPA), is launching its annual polo initiatives with Winter Introductory Clinics for teens:
  • Saturday, FEB 15 at Noon-1:30pm
  • Saturday, FEB 29 at Noon-1:30pm

The Intro Clinic is oriented as a 1-time 'jump-start' to prepare newcomers to continue training in weekly beginner lessons with their peers.  Previous riding experience is not required.  The Clinic is conducted in a small, focused group format to learn with other beginners and provide individual attention to each student’s progress and to practice newly learned skills in scrimmages and put new skills to use. The Clinic will cover...
Basic Horse Care & Prep
Riding Skills for Polo
Basic Hitting and Defense
Rules and Strategy

STEP 2: To complete your reservation of a limited seat in the Intro Clinic, the clinic fee of $100/person is required in advance.  This introductory offer includes 1.5 hours of instruction and scrimmage in the arena, the use of facility horses, polo mallets, and safety equipment. Suggested dress is layered outerwear, jeans, and boots with 1" heel. Class size is limited. Reserve a seat Now by Venmo to Instructor, Minnie Keating.  Reservations and Cancellations require 24-hour notification

Sign Up to receive the weekly Lesson Schedule via email, offering subsequent clinic dates if this date conflicts with your schedule, or by open enrollment in weekly beginner classes that provide individual attention, for those who are not able to participate in the scheduled Intro Clinics, but want to start learning the sport of polo, and for those interested in continuing their instruction after taking the Intro Clinic.

USPA-certified instructor: Minnie Keating.  Lesson horses are of the finest thoroughbred caliber & training, and professional-grade polo equipment is provided. Directions to Newport Polo’s private equestrian training facility in Seekonk, MA are provided upon registration.

Riding experience is not required for beginners since each lesson includes riding instruction specific to polo,” explains Keating, "but as a student’s polo skills progress, their riding skills will need to become proficient."

Formerly an Olympic sport, the United States Polo Association has fostered the recent growth in the US by 20% in the past few years, in addition to its global footprint in over 80 countries, with the help of clubs like Newport Polo that allocate resources for new participants to try the sport.  Newport Polo’s club and interscholastic teams are made up mostly of players who got their start through the club's Polo School programs over the past 30 years.
