Dallas edged out by Newport

Date:    Saturday, July 12, 2014

Newport took advantage of a slow start from Dallas with a very strong first two chukkers, only to be slowed down by Dallas gaining their composure and making sure that the win would have to be fought hard for, but still coming out on bottom to the Newport team. Dallas brought a strong team consisting of Rebecca Barrons in the number 1 position, Wyatt Myr playing at number 2, David Barrons holding the middle of the field as the number 3 and Steve Gilchrist holding the fort at the back playing as the number 4. In the defending Newport team there was Bridget Torrey up front as the number 1, Sam Clemens and Chip Steigler in the midfield in the 2 and 3 positions respectively and Jonathan Kaye as our man at the back and number 4. Bridget Torrey opened the scoring for Newport with a quick goal in the first chukker. Sam Clemens then went on to score 3 goals for Newport with no answer from Dallas in the first chukker. Dallas got a goal back in the second chukker but were not able to stop Sam Clemens scoring yet another goal for Newport. The in form man Sam Clemens then scored another 2 goals in the third chukker with Bridget Torrey also adding one, but Dallas were not going to give up easy and goals from Wyatt Myr, Steve Gilchrist and two from David Barrons meant that the score 8-6 in favor of Newport going into the half time break. The fourth chukker was very tight with two goals a piece for each team, coming from Sam Clemens and Jonathan Kaye for Newport and Rebecca Barrons and Wyatt Myr for Dallas. Sam Clemens was unstoppable on the day and added another goal in each of the final two chukkers, with goals also coming from Jonathan Kaye and Chip Steigler, to make the final tally for Newport 14 goals. Dallas were only able to squeeze a goal in each chukker, both coming from Wyatt Myr, meaning that Newport were the victors with a score of 14-10.
